Invisalign in Canada: How It Works, What Affects Cost and Who It Suits
How Invisalign clear aligners straighten teeth, what determines their cost in Canada, how treatment compares with braces, and what keeps results in place afterwards.
Invisalign straightens teeth with a series of clear, removable aligners instead of wires and brackets. It is one of the most requested treatments at our Richmond Hill clinic — here is how the process works and what shapes the price.
How the treatment works
First comes a consultation with digital scans and photographs of your teeth. From those, a 3D treatment plan maps how each tooth will move and predicts the full series of aligners. You wear each set for one to two weeks, taking them out only to eat, drink anything but water, and brush.
You visit the clinic periodically so progress can be checked and refined. Mild tightness for a day or two after switching to a new set is normal and settles quickly.
What determines the cost
As with implants, the honest answer on cost is that it depends on your case, and the estimate comes after the scan and treatment plan. Aligner treatment is often comparable in price to comprehensive orthodontic treatment, and many insurance plans that cover orthodontics contribute to Invisalign as well.
- How complex the tooth movements are, and how many aligners the plan needs
- Whether both arches are treated or only one
- The length of treatment and any refinements afterwards
- Retainers, whitening and other parts of the finish
Invisalign versus braces
Aligners win on appearance and convenience — you can eat whatever you like and brush normally. Braces still have advantages for some complex movements, and they do not depend on you remembering to wear the trays. During your consultation we will tell you honestly if aligners are not the right tool for your case.
Keeping the results
Teeth have a memory, and without retainers they drift back. Retainers are worn full-time at first and then nightly. Skipping this step is the most common reason results are lost.
Common questions
How much does Invisalign cost in Canada?
It depends on the complexity of your case and the length of treatment. After your consultation and scan, you receive a written estimate that includes the full plan, retainers and check-in visits.
Does Invisalign work for adults?
Yes — a large share of aligner patients are adults. As long as your teeth and gums are healthy, age is not a barrier.
How long does Invisalign take?
Simple cases can finish in several months; more involved movements take a year or longer. Your 3D treatment plan shows the expected timeline before you commit.
Does insurance cover Invisalign?
Many plans with orthodontic coverage do, up to your plan's limit. We help you check your benefits and can discuss the Canadian Dental Care Plan's rules for orthodontic coverage if you are a member.
