A Family Dental Care Guide for Toronto and York Region Households
Age-by-age dental care tips for babies, kids, teens, adults and seniors, from the Nova Family Dental team in Richmond Hill.
Every age has different dental needs. Here is a simple guide to keep the whole household's smiles healthy.
Babies and toddlers
Book a first visit by the first birthday or within six months of the first tooth. Wipe gums and brush first teeth with a rice-grain smear of fluoride toothpaste.
Children and teens
Regular checkups, sealants where suitable, mouthguards for sports, and an eye on bite development help prevent bigger problems later.
Adults
Watch for bleeding gums, sensitivity and grinding. Regular cleanings catch gum disease and decay early.
Seniors
Dry mouth from medications, root decay and denture fit become more common. Tell your dentist about medication changes.
